The Victory Circle Monument holds commemorative plaques for all previous race winners starting with the late Dan Wheldon’s win in 2005.
In addition to Montoya and Penske, several dignitaries including the mayor of St. Petersburg, Rick Kriseman, participated in the brief ceremony.
“It is great to have another plaque for being on the podium seven times (wins) out of 11 races,” Penske said. “It is a matter of great drivers on a good team and maybe I get the credit, but it is all about our guys.”
