The Quiet Champion – RacingNation.com

The 12 Hours of Sebring is now over and the final season of the American Le Mans Series moves on to Long Beach. With the new unified United Sports Car Racing Series to begin next season, this will mark the last season where fans will get to see the top LMP1 class compete.

Competing in the LMP1 class this year and looking to set additional records by winning yet another championship is Lucas Luhr, who you might consider the quiet champion, since he is currently going for his record 6th championship in the American Le Mans Series.

He already has the following accomplishments in the American Le Mans Series to his credit: 2 GT Championships (2002 and 2003), 1 LMP2 Championship (2006) and 2 LMP1 Championships (2008 and 2012).

But that is not all that is on his racing resume. He was the FIA GT1 class champion in 2011, 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner in 2000, 2002 and 2003, 24 Hours of Nurburgring overall winner in 2006 and 2011, Spa 24 Hours class winner in 2002, 24 Hours of Daytona class winner in 2001 and the Porsche Supercup Champion in 1999. Those are just some of his more major achievements.

Currently in his fourth season with Pickett Racing driving the Muscle Milk sponsored car, he is attempting to secure his 6th American Le Mans Series Championship and second LMP1 title in a row driving the Honda HPD ARX 03 this year with co-driver Klas Graf.

Born in 1979 in Germany and currently residing in Switzerland, Lucas is both a fierce competitor and very nice guy, who has been a fan favorite since he started racing in the US. Well known in the sports car community, Lucas is always available to spend time with fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

As he goes for his 4th victory and 3rd in a row in April at Long Beach (overall winner in 2008, 2011, and 2012) and he continues his march toward that 6th championship in the American Le Mans Series, I am sure we will be hearing much more in the future about Lucas Luhr, the quiet champion.
