Ryan Guyett wants to rebound from a rocky start to the season in the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series and he figures the next stop at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway’s 1/4-mile track on April 22 is the ideal place to do it.
“The place is great, I absolutely love it,” Guyett said. “I consider Jacksonville my home track, it’s 30 minutes from home, and it’s my favorite big track. I used to run there weekly and I picked up a lot of wins at Jacksonville.”
Guyett, of Springfield, Ill., didn’t make the feature of the POWRi opener at the Du Quoin (Ill.) Mini Magic Mile on March 26. He wasn’t alone. There were 76 entries and 23 made the feature.
“I had a rough time at Du Quoin, but I’m hoping to make up for it at Jacksonville,” Guyett said. “It’s probably one of the stronger tracks we go to. My crew chief, Brian Homer, lives in Jacksonville and he loves going there, too. I feel strongly we’re a definite threat to win.”
The POWRi Micros race at Macon (Ill.) Speedway on the following night (April 23). Guyett won at Macon’s 1/5th-mile track in 2010.
“It’s one of my favorite and also one of my least favorite tracks,” Guyett said. “It’s so inconsistent, the track can be completely different from one race to another. I kind of think I just lucked into that win last year. Everything worked out for us, I had everything going my way. I’ve had a lot of good experiences there and a lot of bad ones.”
Guyett, 20, has been a regular in POWRi since 2007. He finished second in the championship in 2008, fourth in 2007 and eighth last season.
“I’m going to try to run for the championship this year, but the price of gas is going to put a big burden on it,” he said.
Ryan Langston, of Greenfield, Ind., won at Du Quoin and is the 600 Outlaw Micro point leader over Dereck King, of Vienna, Ill., 200-190. Devon Piper, of Springfield, Ill., was third at Du Quoin and is third in the points with 180.
The events at Jacksonville and Macon also feature the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series. Nick Knepper, of Belleville, Ill., leads the points over Tim Siner, of Dupo, Ill., 190-180 and King is third with 170.
