Open Wheel Madness; One Stop Shopping at Eldora – RacingNation.com

HAMMOND, IN: Perhaps the best thing about the end of summer for fans of open-wheel, dirt track racing is the “Chevrolet presents An American Revolution” weekend at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. Whether your preference is wings or traditional, Sept. 21-22

at Eldora will provide you with your “winter fix”.

On Friday night, the winged-warriors from the World of Outlaws will supply the action. Season-long point leader Donny Schatz has been struggling in recent weeks to hold off the charge of red-hot Joey Saldana, who has closed to within 53 points of the leader. Along with the Championship point battle, the all-time Eldora track record will be on the line; the one lap record currently is held by Craig Dollansky, with a time of 12.707 seconds set on 4/13/02. So far in 2007, the WoO have visited Eldora four times, with the previous victories going to Jason Meyers, Paul

McMahan, Steve Kinser and Donnie Schatz.

For fans of USAC racing, it just doesn’t get any better than the traditional “4 Crown Nationals”(even though there are actually only three divisions running!). The 27th edition of USAC’s fall classic will run Saturday night. Several drivers are scheduled to do “triple-duty” by competing in all three USAC

divisions: Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget.

The midgets will kick off the evening with a 25 lap feature. Enjoying what can only be described as a “dream season”, Jerry Coons Jr. will be attempting to protect a comfortable point lead, which he currently enjoys over Darren Hagen. Among their challengers will

NASCAR star and former Eldora winner J.J. Yeley.

The 50 lap Lucas Oil National Sprint Car feature will be next, as Levi Jones attempts to move closer to his second UASC Sprint championship. Darren Hagen is second in points, just like in the midget division. And again, J.J. Yeley will join the regular cast of

characters.

The 75 lap Silver Crown event will cap the triple-header evening, as Bud Kaeding will try to maintain his point lead over Wayne Ruetimann Jr. With only Kansas Speedway and Phoenix International remaining on the 2007 schedule, this will be the year’s final dirt track appearance for the Silver

Crown series.

Summer may be over, but the fun is just beginning.
Stock up now…’cause it’s going to be a long winter!
